Microlepia strigosa is a graceful fern with delicate green lacy fronds, yet tough enough to tolerate drier conditions than most ferns. The soft-textured triangular leaves resemble intricate lacework and slowly spread by rhizomes to form lush billowing clumps. In California, Lace Fern is a popular garden fern.

Lace Fern is a medium-large fern that slowly spreads 3 ft. wide or more by clump-forming rhizomes. This semi-hardy to semi-tender evergreen fern has finely-divided, bright green, gracefully arching fronds that grow close together for a full-foliage look. The new growth is a light apple-green or chartreuse color that matures to a darker green and adds colorful interest in the landscape.

Microlepia strigosa is easy to grow and is an excellent fern for shady areas in the landscape. Its short-creeping, clumping habit makes Lace Fern an excellent choice for borders or foundations. Purchased the “cropped” length. I am 5ft 3.5 inch. Weight 170lbs (42 inch hip/38 inch waist) normally wear a size 10/12 or 31 in jeans, depending on the brand. I ordered up at 14 for these based on other reviewers. (When held up to other jeans they were the same as a Talbots 10 at the waist) Prewash they felt good, a little big& length hit at the top of my foot. After wash and dry, the fit was almost perfect and the length was at lower ankle. Ordering up is probably the right choice, although I think I could have been comfortable in a 12 (with no drying). They are a tad bit too long for a “cropped” look IMO. The wide leg is a true wide leg and falls straight from the waist. The material is heavy and there is almost no give/stretch - so a traditional denim. This is the dark blue and it is a true dark blue. You can’t beat the price, excellent value.
