You can also grow it in a hanging basket, in pots or even as ground cover or up a tree (latter two, in the right zone - 9b-11)

Use a good quality fertilizer for optimal growth. If you use slow-release apply it 2-3 times per year. Be weary of cheaper fertilizers with too much salt in the composition.
