Brush Cherry | Eugenia Syzygium

Brush Cherry is an evergreen shrub/tree in the Myrtle family. It is well suited for bonsai as it primarily grows as a single trunk and features a very compact growth habit. Growing up to a max of 20 feet. Well known for their puffy white flowers, followed by edible little cherries!

Found primarily in Australia and New Zealand, where it is very commonly grown as hedge, the brush cherry family has expanded to much of Asia & Africa.

Leaves: The leaves are oblong, narrow, When the glossy leaves first grow, they are red and darken to a green with maturity. The leaves are opposite and measure between 0.5”-1.5”.

 Flowers: In the beginning of Spring & Summer, a bright red, large, trumpet shaped flower will grow, by the fall you will have a large, juicy red pomegranate to eat! Pomegranate trees are monoecious plants, meaning both male and female parts are on the same tree. It is self-pollination.

Sun Requirement: Full Sun

Watering Requirements: Water the soil thoroughly to help saturate the entire substrate. Water frequently and keep the soil slightly moist, not soaking, take care to not let the root ball dry out completely

Growth Rate: 12”-24”/year

Ideal PH 5.5-7.5
