Overview

Arugula is a fast-growing, cool-season salad green that adds a tangy, mustard-like flavor to salads. This spicy salad and braising green has been cultivated for more than a century for its cold-hardiness and versatility. Arugula’s savory, nutty flavor spices up fresh salads and stir-fries. Combine it with almonds and olive oil for a gourmet pesto spread. Arugula is an excellent source of Vitamins C and A, as well as calcium and folate.

Conditions

For soil, use a fertile well-draining potting mix that’s tailored for vegetables. For the best quality leaves, provide sun to part shade (3-6 hours of direct sunlight daily) and consistent moisture (don’t let the topsoil become dry to the touch). Arugula prefers cool conditions, so plan to grow in early spring or fall/winter.

Planting

Use our grow calendar tool to find specific dates for your region! Seeds germinate quickly in 5-7 days.

Plant seeds directly outdoors in early spring or fall, spacing 6” apart for full-sized mature greens. For a continual supply, plant every 2-3 weeks throughout the growing season.

Care

Keep soil moist throughout the growth cycle.

Pests and Disease

Flea beetles can be controlled by covering the crop with floating row covers from the day of sowing. Prevent diseases with crop rotation and sanitation.

Harvest

Arugula can be grown for baby leaves or for mature greens. For baby leaves, clip starting 3-4 weeks after planting. Leaves will continue to grow back (cut-and-come-again).

For mature greens, harvest leaves when they are about 2-3 inches long. Pull up whole plants or cut individual leaves.

Terrific sunscreen!
I found out about the Sun screen from a youtuber who does Amazon favorites videos. At first, I thought she was nuts for advertising a $32 sun screen especially for the size it is. I really wanted an everyday sun screen that wasn't thick and goopy. I don't mind of I'm going to the beach or pool but a lot of them are a little much for every day use. Im trying to be better at protecting my face.. When I came across this I decided to splurge and try it. I hate to admit it but I'm so glad I did! It has a slight scent but nothing over powering at all. Its truly a weightless sunscreen that is perfect! I put it on before work and it doesn't make me look greasy or anything. You could probably use it under make up of you really wanted to, I just haven't tried it yet. My only complaint is the price but I haven't tried anything as good ad this! I've seen Ulta have sales on it every once in a while.

Soothing, refreshing, and effective for most uses
I found this sunscreen back when it was still reasonable priced ($10 for a bottle this size) and am now completely 100% addicted as the price continues to rise. Sigh. I don't use this anywhere but my face and neck. Putting this on my face makes me go "ahhhhh". I break out easily, burn easily, and haaaate the feeling of sunscreen. Previously, I used Neutrogena 45 or 55+ ultra-sheer dry touch, and I still use that sometimes when I expect more intense exposure, but the Coola cucumber just feels so much better. I don't actually know if I would burn in cases where I still use my other 45+ sunscreen since I haven't taken the chance. I use Coola for 30-45 minute pool sessions, and hikes between 30-90 minutes. I haven't trusted it for things like skiing, 3 hour hikes, or boating where you get intense sun and a lot of moisture exposure. Buy if you want a lightweight, refreshing face sunscreen for walks in the sun, lounging poolside, or mild-moderate hikes.

Organic Sunscreen with an Air-Brushed Finish
I've been using the Coola Organic sunscreen on my face for about 5 years now. I love that it protects my skin without dangerous chemicals. The product has virtually no scent and has a pleasant creamy, but not greasy, texture. An additional perk is that it creates an instant "air-brushed" looking finish to my skin. Note: I have found that you have to shake the tube (especially when new) or else the product emerges a bit watery at first. I've always used the non-tinted formula so I can't comment on how the tinted formula works. Also, the "cooling" aspect of the product seems more of hype than reality. But, over all, this is an excellent sunscreen.
