The Helena Story

The Divine - The scalloped clay fringe along the top edge of the beautiful Helena Pot gives it a soft and classic look.

North of Rome in the Lazio region rests the small town of Di Bolsena, a place once filled with potters and the home of Roberto Rosso, one of Italy’s greatest potters. Inspired by ancient Greek designs, Rosso created pottery with distinctive clay borders, a popular feature throughout the 1800s. Fascinated by the idea of a decorative rim, Steffen Berg created our Helena Pot with the remarkable scalloped border to acquire a soft yet classic-looking flowerpot. Today, our Italian potters pay homage to Rosso’s masterpiece every time a new Helena Pot is moulded.

      A note on Freckling

Let's talk a little bit about 'freckles'. This is what we have named the little visible grains of colour that occasionally appears on our natural raw clay pots.

The reason for the freckles is that we use organic and untreated Italian Galestro clay - the best clay available. The 'freckles' are tiny pieces of calcium or other minerals that are naturally found in the clay.

The freckles are more pronounced on some lots of clay due to variations in soil conditions in Tuscany, Italy. However, it is a characteristic that many of the Italian potters think is a beautiful characteristic. And so do we.

As with us humans - freckles is a sign of summer. The same goes for pots. Most often 'freckle formation' occurs during the summer period when it is ridiculously hot, and the clay dries faster. So, when you see a freckled pot - you know that it is 'summer baby - produced during the hot and sunny season.

It often happens the 'freckles' are loose and fall of and leaves a bit of residue. Luckily, this only happens once. We therefore advise, to soak and wash the pots with a soft brush before using - and you will avoid cleaning up 'fallen freckles'.

We hope you love our pots - freckles or not.

      More on Bergs Potter

The raw clay pots by Bergs Potter are made of premium Italian clay, fired at extremely high temperatures — and nothing else. No chemicals — just the pure beauty of nature. Each of the raw terracotta pots is inherently natural, ages gracefully, and develops a beautiful patina over time. The saucers are given a special finish that makes them waterproof and prevents mould from developing. Whether they are used as a centrepiece for the dining table, to grace the window sill, or to house a large plant on your wooden floors, the beautiful pots will help add a touch of nature to every corner of the home.

Made to live for generations - Bergs Originals are Bergs Potter’s popular, raw terracotta pots in timeless designs, all made to last for generations. Our roots run deep, and it all began during one of the bleakest periods of World War II. Our founder, Victor Berg, inherited a ceramics shop in the Nørrebro district of Copenhagen and built Bergs Potter to fulfil his dream of bringing a little more life and colour into the war-depressed lives of his fellow Copenhageners. A lot has happened since 1942, but one thing remains the same…Plants make people thrive.

Breathing pots - Bergs Potter’s terracotta pots are made with Italy’s finest clay. The minerals in the clay and its high density give the pots the perfect balance of strength and porosity, allowing the pots to breathe and making them naturally resistant to frost. When a pot is watered, it changes colour, which means it breathes. When the pot breathes, it can supply moisture and air to the roots, giving the plant the best possible conditions for growth. Terracotta is a porous material, and the evaporation of water through its pores helps maintain moisture levels and airflow, while the clay’s insulating properties help regulate root temperature.

      Husky chew proof....so far
My husky has a habit of gutting and destroying any squeaky chew toy I have gotten for her. This one so far has lasted a over a month now I must say it does make her work for a treat when hidden in the center of it. So far all the stitching and parts are attached and like new. The plastic center where you hid the treats is intact, the firmness of it does make it difficult to get the treats you put in hard to remove-so choose wisely and not put in large pieces as there is one of the first pieces still inside the center as even I can't get it out. So my girl she enjoys carrying it around and playing with it so this chew toy is a win for this husky owner

      DANGER
DO NOT BUY!!! DANGER! We have had the turtle ones before and then got these. Be we bought two. there is a plug peice in the end that popped out. My dog ate it the first time and had to have emergency surgery because it was stuck in his intestines. We had it removed which cost THOUSANDS of dollars. Also was on vacation when it happened and had to come early when the sitter informed us he was ill. We felt guilty for month! had he got something in our house or yard was it our faults. We saved what they removed which looked like a cork but we dont drink wine. we have a frenchie that doesnt enjoys long walks on the beach if you know what i mean so would not have had access to eat something other places he doesnt relaly go anywhere. This was his favorite toy for a long time so when it got dirty outside, we threw away the first one and took out the second one to replace it . One day i was sitting playing fetch with him when i saw the plug peice come out. I caught it and took it out of his mouth. I IMMEDIATELY RECOGNIZED IT. I ran to grab the zip lock bag the vet gave us with the cork looking item covered in gunk and slime from inside his intestines, ran to the sink to rinse it off and what do you know. mystery was solved. This toy could have killed my dog !

      Strong hold
      Color: Multi-colored, Color: Multi-colored
Very good product. I’m definitely impressed. I have two German shepherds and this toy is definitely durable and does what it’s made to do. The suction is great. The company even gives you a clear plastic strip that you can actually put on the floor and then put the suction cup on it For better grip. I’ve had suction toys before which was absolutely horrible. This one definitely supersedes all others. The suction comes off once in a while but usually that’s because if my dogs are literally biting on the suction cup part lol. But with confidence. Great product
