Brushstroke Patterns and Nightly Leaf Movement

The Rattlesnake Plant (Calathea lancifolia / Goeppertia insignis) is a tropical foliage star with leaves that resemble hand-painted artwork. Long, narrow blades emerge pale green, then fill in with rows of dark green “spots” that resemble reptile markings, while the undersides glow a deep purple. Like other prayer plants, its foliage gently rises and falls throughout the day, adding a sense of quiet movement to shelves, plant stands, and side tables. It’s a plant you’ll find yourself looking at again and again—the pattern is that hypnotic.

Upright, Fountain-Like, and Gracefully Compact

Rattlesnake Plant grows as an upright, clump-forming perennial with leaves that arch outward from a central crown in a fountain-like shape. Indoors, most plants grow to around 18–30 inches tall and wide in a roomy pot, making it substantial enough to fill a corner without dominating the room. The slender leaves and wavy edges give it a lighter, more airy look than broad-leaved Calatheas, so it plays nicely alongside bigger tropicals and trailing vines. Over time, new shoots emerge from the base, thickening the clump into a lush, full specimen.

Filtered Light, Moist Soil, and High Humidity

In nature, this species grows on the rainforest floor of Brazil under a protective canopy, which reveals almost everything about its natural preferences. It thrives in medium to bright indirect light and also tolerates lower-light locations, as long as there’s enough ambient brightness to read by. Direct midday sun can scorch and fade the patterned leaves, so think filtered or dappled light rather than harsh rays.

The roots like consistently moist, well-drained soil—never bone dry, never swampy. Let the top inch of the potting mix dry slightly, then water thoroughly and allow excess to drain away. Calatheas can be sensitive to hard or heavily treated tap water, so filtered, distilled, or rainwater is often recommended to keep leaf edges looking better. High humidity is essential for this plant to thrive: aim for around 50–60% or higher with the help of grouping, pebble trays, or a humidifier.

Pet-Safe Tropical Texture Indoors

Think of Rattlesnake Plant as a designer pattern for your interior “landscape.” Indoors, it’s ideal as a mid-sized focal plant on a plant stand, in a decorative cachepot on the floor, or as the centerpiece of a plant cluster near an east or north window. Its narrow, wavy leaves add delicate texture and visual rhythm that play beautifully against round-leaved plants and trailing species.

One of its most significant advantages is that it’s considered non-toxic to cats and dogs, so it’s a fantastic choice for pet-friendly homes that still want dramatic foliage. In warm, frost-free climates, it can also spend summers outdoors in a shaded, humid spot, then come back inside once the nights cool down.

Quick, powerful, and easy to use
Style: 2 x 2.0Ah
When my wife and I bought our latest home, I got bitten by the battery-powered lawn equipment bug. Because our lawn is a lot smaller and flatter than our last home, I refrained from having landscapers regularly maintain this new lawn. This means I now have every piece of equipment one could possibly want to keep our yard looking beautiful Before purchasing this last item for our lawn, I was using a weed whacker to do the edging. This was tedious and not very precise. Because I have all Greenworks-branded equipment, this edger was a no-brainer. Even though most of our battery-operated lawn equipment uses 60v batteries, I opted for this smaller dual-battery setup to save a little weight and money. Because of the small battery sizes, the edger is perfectly balanced and not one bit unwieldy. I am able to quickly clear all of our sidewalk, lanai, and driveway surface edges within minutes. Up to this point, I had never used an edger before. It literally took less than 30 seconds to get it buzzing correctly along the surface edges of our property. If not trying to do a large commercial area, this edger will probably work for most residential applications. Quickly and easily.

It's a beast and you can add attachments to, like a brush cutter head.
Style: 16" (2 x 4Ah)
This thing is a beast of a battery powered machine. I wouldn't put it completely up against my gas. It is much better than the Greenworks 24V 13-Inch Brushless String Trimmer (Gen 2), 4.0Ah USB Battery and Charger Included that I had purchased this time last year. I have several gas so I only really needed a light duty one to do the fence line and around the house. The main issue with the 13 inch was that the auto feed bump mechanism was worthless. It also uses very thin lines so very quickly you go from 13 inches to 6 to 8. and the bump feed does not work even with greenworks replacement spools. You get twice the batteries and a dual rapid charger for $50 more. You couldn't even buy the battery for that much. onto this thing. Love the dual string heavy-duty string mechanism. Love the fact that you can remove the trimmer head and add an attachment. I have attachments from my gas Trimmers and they work perfectly. My brush head attachment utterly devastated thick bramble from an overgrown lot. The best part is it took me two hours to get my stored gas trimmers to run properly which I don't have to do with a battery operated device. No gas flying that deteriorated or primer bubbles that have burst followed spark plugs Stale gas . Just throw the batteries on and you're off. Nothing long-term to report, only had it a week. Used it enough to run down completely six sets of batteries.

Works well, but battery life is lacking
Style: 15" (2 x 2Ah)
This is a decent trimmer and gets the job done almost as well as a gas model. It has decent power (could use a little more) and is plenty light. However, the battery life stinks. One of the two batteries has already decided not to charge. It plugs in, but the charger does not blink or charge it. The terminals are clean. Of course, this happened just outside the return/support window, meaning I now have to buy a new battery just to use the trimmer. That's about half the price of the trimmer; if the other one dies, too, I may as well buy a brand new gas trimmer for the price and have the thing last for a decade or two like my last one, instead of a couple years like this one.

Overall very good product.
Style: 15" (2 x 2Ah)
I bought this trimmer as I had previously bought a Greenworks 24V MAX Cordless drill that uses the same battery. The batteries to buy them alone are over 50 dollars each and as this has two its a great value in that respect. I was tired of electric trimmers with cords or noisy gas powered ones that are hard to start. This so far has worked excellent. I have not had a problem with the trimmer cord breaking and having to re-wind it back onto the spool like some other trimmers I have used. It is not noisy and it is effective and easy to use. The only thing I would disagree on is it is advertised as having an Ultra lightweight design. It is not heavy or cumbersome to use but I would not call it ultra lightweight. Overall very good product.

Extremely diappointing
Style: 15" (2 x 2Ah)
I purchased a Greenworks Impact Wrench for my son. I was so so impressed with it that I purchased one for myself & decided to try their 2x24V 15" Cordless String Trimmer. Unfortunately just because a company makes one excellent tool doesn't mean that all their tools are good. The first problem I had with the trimmer was that it didn't come with the batteries or charger in the ad. It was supposed to have 4.0Ah batteries but came with 2.0Ah. In addition, more often than not, the manual didn't agree with actual parts & features. The trimmer requires two 24V batteries to operate. It can't be used with one battery even though it has a "low power" setting. On full power the trimmer had adequate power for most weeds but is no where near as powerful as a gas trimmer. The batteries only lasted about 20 minutes (this trimmer does not have a brushless motor). The 2 line feed head is not designed for easy reloading. In fact, it is the worst design I've ever owned. I've decided to return it & try one of their 2x24V brushless motor trimmers which should provide more power & has 4.0Ah batteries but costs significantly more.
