Dracaena (Sansevieria) zeylanica

Dracaena zeylanica is a rhizomatous snake plant with upright, sword-shaped leaves marked by soft grey-green banding. The foliage rises from the base in a tight clump, giving the plant a calm vertical shape and a muted, natural pattern.

The leaves are pointed, slightly fleshy and held in a restrained green palette with fine transverse markings. In a pot, Dracaena zeylanica develops through basal shoots, gradually adding density around the rhizome.

Flat blades with quiet banding

  • Upright, sword-like leaves with grey-green transverse markings.
  • Rhizomatous base that gradually adds new shoots around the clump.
  • Measured indoor growth with long-lasting foliage.
  • Well matched to warm rooms and a sharply draining substrate.

Rhizome, range and container growth

Dracaena zeylanica is accepted botanically under Dracaena, while Sansevieria zeylanica remains the older name many growers still recognise. The species is native to southern India and Sri Lanka, where it grows as a rhizomatous geophyte in seasonally dry tropical conditions.

In a pot, the rhizomes and thick leaves are built for dry intervals, so the plant responds best to a clear wet-dry cycle. New shoots may appear close to the existing leaves, slowly widening the clump over time.

Watering pattern for a dry-season plant

  • Light: Give bright indirect light or mild morning/evening sun. In lower light, new growth usually arrives more slowly.
  • Watering: Let the pot dry deeply before watering again, then soak evenly and drain fully.
  • Substrate: Use a mineral, fast-draining mix with pumice, lava, grit or other coarse components.
  • Temperature: Keep warm indoors, ideally above 18 °C, and protect the pot from cold windowsills.
  • Feeding: Feed lightly in spring and summer. This rhizomatous plant needs only modest nutrition.
  • Repotting: Repot when the rhizomes press firmly against the pot or the mix has become dense.

Early warning signs

  • Soft leaf bases: Check for wet substrate, poor drainage or cold conditions around the rhizome.
  • Wrinkled leaves: A very long dry spell may leave the foliage slightly folded or dull; water thoroughly once the pot is warm.
  • Pale dry patches: Sudden direct sun can mark the leaf surface, especially after a darker indoor position.
  • Hidden pests: Look between the leaf bases for mealybugs and wipe the leaves when dust or pests appear.

Placement around pets and children

Dracaena zeylanica should be kept away from pets and small children who may chew leaves. Ingestion may cause digestive upset, and the pointed leaf tips are better placed where they will not be brushed at face height.

Botanical name and synonym

Dracaena comes from the ancient Greek drakaina, meaning female dragon. The epithet zeylanica means “of Ceylon,” referring to Sri Lanka under its historic name. Sansevieria zeylanica remains a widely recognised synonym for the same plant.

Dracaena zeylanica has flat upright leaves, soft banding and steady rhizome growth in a muted green clump.

Great for the price
Size: 1 Kit, Size: 1 Kit
Worked great at clearing my headlights and at a great price, I had used a different headlight kit maybe 5-6 months before and it did not perform as good as this kit did, maybe it was a user error with the previous kit but this one cleared it easily and was very easy to do and had a nice clear shine.

I'm Not Disappointed ...
Size: 1 Kit, Size: 1 Kit
I knew going in that my expectations shouldn't be very high because my car is a first generation 2010 Kia Soul. So its old with 16 plus years of yellowing oxidation and some abrasion. I took a chance with doing this because of the reviews and pictures. To my surprise, it worked better than I anticipated and could hope for. My driver side(left) headlight was horrible but my passenger side(right) wasn't too shabby and didn't require as much care. This would have turned out better if I had power drill attachments of the same sanding grit to do this. My arm is going to be really sore come Sunday. 😆 It wasn't too hard to follow the instructions as they were very simple for the application process. I don't know about the 2 years for it lasting, but for now, its durable. Once I drive at night, I'll be able to But all in all, it worked for me and its better than before I tackled it. All in all it looks good, I feel like I'll have a better beam when night 🌙 driving.

Let this restoration kit light up your life
Size: 1 Kit
I have a car that is 24 years old and is my daily driver.  Understandably, the headlight lenses have deteriorated to the point where I was using my brights exclusively at night yet never being flashed to turn them down.  I got quotes between 60-80 dollars per headlight for restoration which I just wasn't willing to pay so I decided on this kit to try restoring them myself.  I read reviews before I ever make a decision on a product and noticed many reviewers of other products stated that this product works better so I went ahead and purchased it.  Man, am I glad I did!!!   The kit arrived late this afternoon, I opened it, READ AND FOLLOWED THE INSTRUCTIONS and within 1 1/2 hours had turned a travesty into a triumph.  I started by taping around both lights with 1 inch blue painters tape to protect the paint around the lights.  The kit comes with everything necessary to remove most moderate deterioration but be sure to purchase one that corresponds with your actual situation.  I believe my lenses were far beyond "moderate" but with some heavy elbow grease, the correct use of both supplied sanding disks and my hose set on "mist" I was able to sand off years of damage leaving behind a smooth, albeit opaque surface.  After making sure everything was totally dry using both towels and my leaf blower, I was ready for the Magic!!!  I opened the first clearcoat package (while wearing the provided glove) and lightly but steadily applied the liquid with the supplied towelette and the required 50% overlapping passes.  The opaque lenses instantly turned clear upon contact with the clearcoat.  After waiting around 25 minutes to be sure the lenses were completely dry I opened the second package of clearcoat and applied it in the same manner as the first.  I had no misses or problems with my first coat but for those who do...NOW is the time to make corrections, NOT during the first coat process.  Leave things to dry for around an hour and you are done. The end result?  AWESOME, INCREDIBLE, UNBELIEVABLE...shall I go on???  Not necessary, but I can say I am thrilled with the outcome.  My wife said the lights look new and I agree, there is a night and day difference between before and after. Only time will tell how long the restoration lasts but for now I am very very happy with the results I got from this 3M product.  I highly recommend it to anybody who can read, understand and follow the instructions.  5 stars all the way on this one!!!
