Tradescantia rhoeo discolor, also known as "Rhoeo" or "Moses in the Cradle," is a tropical perennial plant valued for its colorful leaves and decorative appearance. It is ideal for both indoors and outdoors in warm regions.
Care:
Light: Prefers bright indirect light but can also tolerate partial shade. Exposure to direct sunlight for short periods enhances leaf coloration, but strong afternoon sun can scorch the leaves.
Watering: Water the plant regularly during the growing season (spring and summer), allowing the soil to dry slightly between waterings.
Reduce watering in autumn and winter when the plant enters dormancy. Avoid overwatering, which can cause root rot.
Soil: Prefers well-drained soil rich in organic matter. A mix of peat, sand, and garden soil is ideal. Ensure the pot has drainage holes.
Temperature: Thrives at temperatures between 18-26°C. Does not tolerate temperatures below 10°C, so it should be protected from cold in temperate regions.
Humidity: Prefers a moderately humid environment. Mist the leaves periodically if the air is very dry.
Fertilizing: Apply a liquid fertilizer for decorative plants once a month during the growing season. No fertilization is needed during winter.
Pruning: Remove dry or damaged leaves to encourage healthy growth and maintain an attractive appearance.
