Aglaonema pictum 'Tricolor'

Aglaonema pictum 'Tricolor' is a patterned form of Aglaonema pictum, a species from Sumatra including Nias. It grows as a low, slow subshrub with short stems and oval leaves marked in several green tones.

The plant forms a compact crown with short, steady growth. New leaves emerge rolled, harden gradually and show stronger pattern definition as the blade matures, so the pattern sharpens through steady, warm growth.

Aglaonema pictum 'Tricolor' key traits

  • Horticultural tricolour form of Aglaonema pictum
  • Oval leaves with dark green, mid-green and pale green mottling
  • Compact subshrub habit with slow indoor growth
  • Species background from wet tropical Sumatra, including Nias
  • Warm rooms, vitrines or plant cabinets for stable compact growth

Aglaonema pictum 'Tricolor' leaf pattern and habitat

Aglaonema pictum is an Araceae species that grows primarily in wet tropical biome conditions. In cultivation, 'Tricolor' describes selected plants with three-tone leaf patterning within Aglaonema pictum.

Keep it in filtered light, with warm roots, consistent moisture and stable air around the leaves. In a pot, older stems may slowly lengthen and root from nodes when they sit close to moist substrate.

Aglaonema pictum 'Tricolor' care requirements

  • Light: Place in bright filtered light, such as an east-facing window or moderate grow-light position.
  • Watering: Keep the substrate lightly and evenly moist. Water when the upper 2–3 cm begins to dry.
  • Substrate: Use a fine, airy forest-floor style mix with coco coir, small bark, perlite, pumice and a little leaf-mould-style organic matter.
  • Drainage: Keep the mix open enough that water drains freely while the root zone stays slightly moist.
  • Temperature: Keep at 20–28 °C for active growth. Growth slows strongly in cool rooms.
  • Humidity: Aim for moderate to high humidity, especially during new leaf expansion. A vitrine, cabinet or humidifier can keep conditions steadier.
  • Feeding: Feed very lightly during active growth. Slow-growing pictum forms handle weak, regular nutrition than heavy doses.
  • Repotting: Repot carefully only when roots fill the pot or the substrate has degraded. Disturbed roots recover more cleanly in warm conditions.
  • Placement: Keep away from cold windows, hot radiators and sudden air movement, as leaf expansion is sensitive to unstable conditions.
  • Propagation: Propagate by rooted divisions or stem sections with nodes, kept warm and humid while new roots form.

Aglaonema pictum 'Tricolor' growth responses

  • Yellowing with soft petioles: Check the lower root ball for saturation and improve drainage before watering again.
  • Crisp leaf edges: Check humidity, watering consistency and warm airflow from radiators or vents.
  • Small, weak new leaves: Check temperature and light level; cool conditions slow this species noticeably.
  • Leaf marks after shipping or moving: Keep the plant warm and stable while new growth develops under consistent light.
  • Stem stretch with fewer leaves: Check whether the plant is reaching for light and rotate it gradually toward a brighter filtered position.

Aglaonema pictum 'Tricolor' compact growth pace

This plant has a naturally slow, compact growth pace. A steady root zone, warm room temperature and stable humidity help leaves expand cleanly while the crown develops gradually.

Aglaonema pictum 'Tricolor' safety

Aglaonema pictum 'Tricolor' contains insoluble calcium oxalate crystals. The leaves and stems can irritate the mouth and throat if chewed, so keep the plant away from pets and children. Wash hands after cutting or dividing stems.

Aglaonema pictum etymology

The botanical name is Aglaonema pictum (Roxb.) Kunth, in the Araceae family. Aglaonema is commonly derived from Greek roots meaning bright or clear and thread. The species epithet pictum comes from Latin pictus, meaning painted or coloured, referring to marked foliage. In horticultural use, 'Tricolor' describes selected plants with three green tones on the leaves.

Too strongly scented. It does nice things for the skin, but I truly wish it was fragrance-free

Highly recommended as a 2nd phone or primary phone if your needs are not too demanding
Color: Blue
I was looking for a small phone to replace my Jelly Pro/Palm. This phone resolves all the issues with thes older phones in regards to performance. Phone is very responsive and has minimum/no lag for my general use. The screen is clear and usable, though viewing take a slight hit when at more extreme angles. With Android 13 loaded, it allows me to use Android auto (Android 8 and the Jelly Pro/Palm doesn't support this ability). Unihertz has published that the phone will get Android 16 in April, 2026, bringing the OS up-to-date. Touch screen works better than either of the older phones and I have had no issues typing. Battery is much better than the prior phones, lasting about slightly less than my Pixel 9a. Charging is very quick given the small battery size the max charging speed of the phone. The phone is thicker than the other phones, but overall thickness actually makes the phone easier to handle. The phone works fine with T-Mobile. CONS The buttons are not placed well for me as a right-hander. It is awkward to reach the volume buttons. Also, the fingerprint reader is badly placed for such a small phone. I have to awkwardly squinch my finger to reach it. Additionally, it doesn't always read correctly. I do believe the camera is slightly better, but not close to a normal sized phone. It will work in a pinch, but wouldn't use it on vacation for memories I wanted to keep. The phone is missing the ability to support an eSim. The phone is larger and heavier than the older 2 phones, but this allows for the larger battery/longer run times. Also, the case it difficult to take off the first time to put in your SIM because of the shape of the phone. This is a great 2nd phone for use around your normal area of business or when exercising. If you take one phone when you travel, I would get a more flexible standard phone that supports eSim and has a camera that takes high quality pictures/video.

Sensible Phone.
Color: Blue
This is a life-changing device. Thank you, Unihertz for making it. It's really helpful if you have small hands and are tired of (physically and mentally) using a large phone. I have a behemoth in the form of S24 Ultra. I juts got so frustrated one day about its size and ordered this device. It's working great with my Mint Mobile; which uses T-Mobile's network. Apparently, AT&T doesn't work on this; so, watch out for that one. The size is perfect for reaching the top corners of the screen. Personally, I am able to type precisely. Google Keyboard's swiping function, as on other devices, helps greatly here too. It's a pleasure to hold a device of this size in my hands while making calls once again; takes me back to my dumb phone era days. It's perfect for not doom scrolling. The programmable button is great to save time. You can set it to any app you want. It offers three shortcuts with that button: a short click, a long press, and a double click. My short click opens up calculator; the long press activates flashlight (and turns it off); the double click opens up a third party timer app. I'm impressed by all the other features that device is able to house-- like, decibel level measuring app, a bubble level app, of course the IR blaster, a native compass app, etc. It's a thoughtful phone that works like a tool, rather than like a landmine of distraction and doom scrolling. It also works great with my Airpods. The fingerprint reader on my unit requires a precise placement of my finger. It's not too forgiving.

Great for decreasing screen time, a great phone with great features
Color: Blue, Color: Blue
I love the form factor of this phone. Perfect for those trying to decrease time spent online. Battery life is very good considering how small the phone is. I could often go 2 days without charging. Most apps work well, would occasionally have to turn the screen landscape to use some apps. My one complaint. The water resistance was not great in my experience. I took it on a run, and some sweat migrated between the screen and plastic case, and it was toast. (Pictured) I understand obviously phones can’t get wet, but when I tell you it was minimal. I truly loved this device…….if they would be willing to fix mine or send me another I would be ecstatic. If a version with better water resistance is released I will be buying.

Jelly Star mini smartphone is a bundle of joy
Color: Blue, Color: Blue
I've been using the Jelly Star about a week now and have no regrets about my purchase. I have the blue color and it's really pretty. This phone is as good as the reviews I researched said it was. Very fast, has all features of a regular smart phone but easy to hold in one hand and carry in pocket. This phone is 3/4" thick with a screen 2.75" x 1.5" and comes with a protective case. Good connection with T-Mobile cell towers, nice variety of ring tones, decent camera for snapshots. When it first arrived I was hesitant to commit, worried that with the tiny print I would struggle, but now that I got it connected I'm really happy with it. I'm old enough that without reading glasses, I need to squint to see the print in text messages, but it has a zoom feature that works well once you get used to it, and I plan to use other devices for viewing the images I take with it. Bought it mainly to have as a basic communication device that isn't bulky/in the way all the time. Don't have to constantly charge the battery either. Only using the phone for calls, texts, and WhatsApp; so far only need to charge it every 3 days. I took the time to research online how to stop apps from running in the background which should also help conserve the battery. I'm looking forward to loading music on it and maybe even taking it for a run once I get the headphones and armband accessories. I recommend it.
