Philodendron Patriciae

First documented in 1979 by botanist Alwyn Gentry in the Chocó Department of Colombia and formally described decades later, Philodendron patriciae is one of the most architecturally extraordinary epiphytic aroids in cultivation — a plant that stops experienced collectors in their tracks and has been described as among the most coveted display plants in existence for botanical conservatories and serious private collections alike. Its leaves are exceptionally long and narrow, sub-velvety in texture, and drape with a straight, pendulous elegance directly from the petioles in a cascading curtain of dark green that in mature specimens can exceed three feet in length indoors and approach five feet under ideal greenhouse conditions. As leaves mature they develop a gentle corrugation — a subtle quilted or rippled texture between the primary lateral veins — that adds extraordinary tactile and visual depth to foliage that is already remarkable for its sheer scale and proportion. The showy inflorescences, when produced on mature specimens, add porcelain white-edged pink to crimson spathes to an already spectacular plant. An advanced collector's specimen that demands patience, space, and commitment — and rewards all three extravagantly.

This species climbs closely against supports with short internodes and abundant aerial roots — a firm, tall moss pole is essential for producing the largest, most dramatically proportioned leaves, as unsupported plants produce notably smaller foliage. Provide bright indirect light without direct sun exposure. Keep the medium consistently but lightly moist, never waterlogged, with the top inch allowed to approach dryness between waterings; use a well-draining aroid mix of orchid bark, perlite, and coco coir with a slightly acidic pH of 5-6. High humidity of 75%+ is strongly preferred and directly influences both leaf size and surface lustre — a dedicated humidifier or enclosed growing environment is strongly recommended. Good airflow around the plant is equally important and helps prevent fungal issues in the high-humidity environment this species requires. Maintain warm temperatures between 65-85°F away from cold drafts. Toxic to humans and pets if ingested.

Insight into Malcolm X’s philosophy
Format: Paperback
We appreciated getting a feel for the oratory and writing of this leading civil rights figure. Didn’t know he was a separatist at the beginning of his public life, and appreciated this perspective within the context of the wider movement. Ended up really liking and respecting his life and work.

You're a chump
The most unique thing about Malcolm X is he never wrote anything, he simply spoke the truth and that alone has proven to withstand the tides of time because his words are still fresh as ever. His speeches always find a way to get to your spirit and makes you rethink the world you are living in. After reading this book, i forget which speech it was exactly, he mentioned something about negores not knowing their history and it was up to them to go forth and reconnect with their homeland. This led me to wonder where I came from. Even though I am not black, I felt as if he was speaking directly to me and this is the kind of power he had. he made you look upon yoyurself and force yourself to ask, "Who am i? And Do I really hate myself?" Racism is still an issue in this country. It has not gone away and malcolm X was never afraid to point out the hypocrisy of the system I was taught to honor and defend. Surely, not one the best books on his speeches out there, but nonetheless powerful enough to get you thinking about the injustice we face everyday. A man who taught you how to be a human being in the end of his life. Today, more than ever his words should never be forgotten.
