Be sure to check out our Roselle Growing Guide for more tips & tricks on successfully growing roselle in your garden.

Roselle Hibiscus is an heirloom, open-pollinated flower variety that produces loads of edible calyces that are great for making teas, jams, sauces, and more! This plant is in the Mallow family and is closely related to okra, cotton, and traditional flowering hibiscus plants. It is also called Red Sorrel, Jamaican Sorrel and Florida Cranberry in some regions. Harvest the calyces prior to opening for a delicious, tart treat that is great for you!

Once the seed pods are harvested, pull the dark red calyces from the seed pod. While they can be eaten raw, they make an incredible summer drink. The calyces may be dehydrated for later use, or use a mortar and pestle to release the flavors for making cold teas, tart jams, and sauces for almost any cooking application.

Roselle may be grown as a perennial in zones where freezing temperatures do not occur. In zone 8 and north, it is grown as a warm-season annual that will eventually be killed when the first frost arrives in fall/winter. Much like okra, it prefers warm temperatures and will thrive in the summer months.

Roselle Hibiscus can be direct-seeded or transplanted. Seeds prefer warmer soil temps for optimal germination, so transplanting will allow for earlier plantings than direct-seeding. Roselle seedlings grow great in our 162 Cell Seed Starting Trays and can be transplanted as soon as plants can be easily pulled from the seed starting tray.

Transplant Roselle seedlings into the garden with plants spaced approximately every 2-3 feet along the row. The plants can get quite large and quite bushy, so a row spacing of 4-5' feet should be used if planting multiple or adjacent rows. Plants will reach 6-7' tall at full maturity and continually produce edible calyces until cool weather arrives. One plant may produce up to 12 lbs of calyces per plant during the warm-growing season.

As is the case with okra, Roselle plants typically don't have any insect or disease pressure. However, because they're in the mallow family, they can be a target for root knot nematodes. As a result, one should practice proper crop rotation when growing Roselle. Don't plant members of the mallow family in the same location in subsequent years.

Game-Changer for My Space!
Color: White, Size: 4 Panel Basic
I recently purchased the Kecreque 4-Panel Room Divider, and it has completely transformed my living area. At 88" wide, it provides ample coverage, creating a private nook in my open-concept home. The white polyester fabric is not only sleek and modern but also wrinkle-resistant and easy to clean—just a quick wipe with a damp cloth, and it looks brand new. Assembly was a breeze; I had it set up in about 20 minutes. The metal frame feels sturdy and durable, and the three extra-wide metal feet offer excellent stability, ensuring it doesn't tip over easily. I love how the panels are connected with flexible buckles, allowing me to adjust the configuration to suit my needs—be it a straight line or an angled setup. This divider has been perfect for creating a dressing area in my bedroom, and I've also used it to section off a workspace in my living room. Its versatility is unmatched, and it folds down compactly when not in use, making storage hassle-free. If you're looking for a stylish, functional, and easy-to-use room divider, I highly recommend this one. It's been a fantastic addition to my home!

Sturdy and Functional
Color: White, Size: 4 Panel Basic
I got this to replace a poor quality divider that I tried first, and this thing is the best! It is easily folded, stands sturdily, easy to assemble, and the fabric looks great. Very very happy with the quality for the price.

Arrived damaged
Color: Black, Size: 4 Panel Basic
Unfortunately, very cheaply made. It arrived with one of the connecting tubes cracked horizontally. Possibly due to bad welding. It is quite a headache to assemble. It was delivered on time but returned for a refund.

Not a great experience but a fine product
Color: Black, Size: 4 Panel Basic
not enough screws were included to make the wall. I was able to locate more screws to finish building-so I didn’t have to return the product- but it was a pain and I got lucky finding the pieces I needed but it could’ve been a fail and a returned product

Useful, simple room divider
Color: White, Size: 4 Panel Basic
All the pieces were accounted for, and some even had extra pieces, maybe just in case they need changing. It was a bit like putting together a piece of IKEA furniture, though I went slower than usual so as not to make any mistakes. It wasn’t too hard to put together myself, and helps give my studio apt a feeling of space and privacy for my bed. I only wish it had a lovely Japanese design on it, but it does amazingly seem to match the wall color.
