Developed at Washington State University, this novel grain is a remarkable example of thoughtful, classical cross-breeding as well as wrangling with scientific nomenclature to arrive at name for something that previously never existed.

Like the recently hyped Kernza, this is a perennial wheat-like grain, but one developed and adapted to the cool-season climate of the Pacific Northwest. It should be fall-planted (although we’ve had some success with mid-winter and early spring sowing as well). Maturing plants form loose-clumps, and slender foliage that (for us) reaches about 4-feet in height. The tough seed heads are moderately easy to thresh with simple tools (we’ve used a leaf mulcher with success), but they can also be hand-threshed if your up for a bit more of a challenge.

Our small plot is going on several years of maturity, and the plants definitely loose a little vigor for us without a bit of intervention. We’ve heard similar reports from Kernza growers, some of whom we’ve heard of chisel-plowing their plots, or grazing them to stimulate new growth and more vigorous seed production. True to the common name, Salish Blue produces blue-ish/purple-ish grain, and makes great pancakes, although we’ve also heard of beer brewers experimenting with it.

Conceptually the idea of breeding fertile, stable crosses of annual grains with perennial wild relatives goes all the way back to the early 20th Century, with early experiments gaining traction in the USSR. The technical challenges of this work have been enormous, especially given the head-spinning complex genetics of wheat and wheat relatives. It’s an amazing achievement to now see successful examples of this great effort.

We’ve neglected our Salish Blue patch since first planting it in the garden where it now co-mingles with overgrown fennel and a production bed of camas bulbs that we forgot about. The whole thing has blended itself together into an edible thicket – the inspiration for our Forager’s Meadow seed mix. We scarcely remember to water it, and yet it grows on, not at all weedy, generously producing fine grain with little sign of pest or disease. It’s the kind of food plant that we all should be growing more of.

Amazon Essentials Women's High Stretch Jeans
Size: 14, Color: Iced Blue Light Wash
Amazon Essentials Women's High Stretch Jeans receives positive reviews from me for their significant stretch, comfort, and flattering fit. The jeans are great for everyday wear, they feel soft and thick yet move well. Although some folks find sizing inconsistent, occasionally needing to size up or experiencing a slightly odd fit in certain areas. They're praised for looking good, offering good value, and being versatile enough for various occasions. Sizing can be hit-or-miss for some, but not for me.

These Are NOT Skinny Jeans.
Size: 18, Color: Medium Blue
Unfortunately, I'm having to return mine. I purchased these expecting to receive skinny jeans and these are not skinny jeans. These are a relaxed fit, straight leg jean. I'm not too sure about the stretch because they were so big in the leg, I couldn't really tell how well they do stretch. They feel like a nice quality jean other than the fit and they're comfortable around the waist.

Weird garbage
Size: 12 Long, Color: Iced Blue Light Wash
Very strange fit, saw the reviews about weird fit but so many others said great fit so that's on me. Got them for under 10 bucks so hard to complain..... however..... Got 12 Long. They are at least a size too big but I generally do that to accommodate shrinking especially length. On what planet these would be considered long I dunno. I'm only 5'8". If you pull them up to where crotch is not sagging, barely to my ankles. Almost long enough if you want the crotch to droop several inches. Fit loose but comfortable in butt and thighs. The waist however is about 4 inches too big and gaps horribly. Almost like waist is actually wider than hips. Strange. Not skinny cut except for right at ankle. The left leg inseam is cut horribly crooked and runs down almost front of leg so altering them is not worth the trouble. They are fairly thick and do stretch, like the denim wash very much. So disappointed. So the great deal I thought I was getting was garbage . Should have know for that price they were unloading their trash

Perfect fit for 5'10
Size: 10 Long, Color: White
White jeans size 10 long fit perfectly. Im 5'10 130 pounds Always have trouble with length and overall fit. These were on sale for less than 11$! Material has some stretch, not too much. I'm going to hang to dry don't want any shrinkage. Fit is less tight than an earlier version of these jeans.
