Amish Butter Popcorn — The Old Amish Heirloom With Buttery Flavor Built Right In
Amish Butter Popcorn is the popcorn that doesn’t need butter — because the buttery flavor is built right in. Creamy-white rice and pearl-type kernels are noted for their excellent popping ability and remarkable buttery flavor that makes this old Amish heirloom the standard of flavor excellence for popcorn. No salt or oil needed.
Outstanding for hominy, grits, and tortillas too, Amish Butter is a particularly practical crop for the home garden because it doesn’t cross much with sweet or flour corn. Grow your own snacks for the winter.
Why Grow Amish Butter?
- Buttery flavor built right in — no salt or oil needed for exceptional taste
- Excellent popping ability — the standard of flavor excellence for heirloom popcorn
- Creamy-white rice & pearl-type kernels — beautiful and distinctive at harvest
- Outstanding for hominy, grits & tortillas — versatile well beyond popcorn
- Low cross-pollination risk — doesn’t cross much with sweet or flour corn
- Open-pollinated heirloom — save seed year after year from your best ears
Growing Notes
Direct sow outdoors after last frost when soil has warmed to at least 60°F. Plant in blocks of at least 4×4 for good wind pollination — single rows will not pollinate well. Sow seeds 1 inch deep, 8–12 inches apart. Water consistently. Allow cobs to dry entirely on the plant before harvesting for best popping results.
