This palm is NOT frost-tolerant. Temperatures below 10 °C (50 °F) will cause severe damage or death. If you live in USDA zones 9 or colder, this plant must be grown indoors or in a heated conservatory year-round. Exposure to frost will kill the plant – this is not recoverable.

Light Requirements – Non-Negotiable

This palm requires abundant bright light to survive. Low-light conditions will result in leaf yellowing, weak growth, and eventual decline. Place in a location receiving at least 4–6 hours of direct sunlight daily, or within 2–3 meters of a bright window indoors. Insufficient light is the #1 cause of plant failure – this is not reversible without adequate light.

Watering – Critical Balance

Overwatering is the most common cause of death in palms. The roots must have oxygen – constantly wet soil causes root rot, which is fatal. Always use well-draining soil and allow the top inch to dry between waterings. Never leave the pot sitting in water. If roots rot, the plant cannot be saved. When in doubt, underwater rather than overwater.

Acclimation Period Required

Upon arrival, your plant needs 3–5 days to acclimate to its new environment. Do not immediately place it in full sun or a drastically different location. So, as other reviewers make clear, this is very similar to Pack Darling and The Beta. It’s much closer aligned with The Beta, in plot and maybe more like Pack Darling with characters. That being said, I don’t hate this…..but it wasn’t great either. It’s both books mentioned but just….less. Less angst, less emotion, less feeling. The plot feels very half fleshed out, and the “bad guy” feels underwhelming. I didn’t really feel any real emotions from and of the male leads, except maybe Oliver. The others fell sorta flat for me. And Mika makes herself out to be this big bad ass straight outta training and then we never see it from here again with the one fitting room incident as the exception. SPOILER: The whole, “Oh, I’m actually probably an Omega, but I don’t wanna be but I do actually wanna be but no one can ever know my secret that I do nothing to hide “ thing fell so flat. She never commutes to believing she was secretly an omega, but also mentions her “secret” a lot. It just felt so manufactured. I’m intrigued enough to read part 2 and see how the author closes everything out, but this is not one I’ll recommend or ever come back to.

Hardly an auspicious beginning. Each member has their own path and purpose in the pack. Their interactions and the resulting narrative are so well-written that I found it difficult to put down. There is a cliffhanger that will have you reaching for book 2 as you finish, so make sure you have it on hand.

Like another reviewer pointed out, step siblings are different than half siblings. They are incorrectly referred to as step siblings because they (allegedly) share the same biological dad. There are a few other typos as well but those aren't a big deal.
