A royal touch of darkness for your urban jungle
Philodendron 'Black Cardinal' | Fast EU shipping | Grown with love in the EU | Not pet-safe
Summary: With its deep burgundy to almost-black foliage, this striking Philodendron brings a bold, modern elegance to European interiors—perfect for German apartments that crave a statement plant with easy-care charm.
✨ Why You'll Love the Philodendron 'Black Cardinal'
- Large, glossy leaves that transition from bright red to deep blackish-green as they mature
- Compact growth habit, ideal for medium spaces and stylish corners
- Low-maintenance and resilient, making it beginner-friendly
- Excellent air-purifying qualities for fresher indoor air
- Quick stats: P12 nursery pot | Height ~20 cm
🌞 Light & Placement
Thrives in bright, indirect light but tolerates partial shade—perfect for north- or east-facing German windows. Avoid direct midday sun, which can scorch the dark leaves.
💧 Water & Humidity
Keep the soil slightly moist but never soggy. Water when the top 2–3 cm of soil feels dry. Loves moderate to high humidity, making it a great fit for European homes with a humidifier or grouped plants.
🪴 Soil & Potting
Use a well-draining aroid mix (peat-free options available in the EU) with added perlite and bark. Repot every 2 years as the plant slowly grows.
🐾 Toxicity & Safety
Not safe for pets—keep away from cats and dogs, as ingestion may cause irritation.
🌱 Growth & Propagation
Compact yet lush, growing wider rather than tall. Easily propagated via stem cuttings placed in water or directly into moist soil during the warmer months.
📆 Seasonal & Special Care
During spring and summer, feed monthly with a balanced liquid fertilizer. In winter, reduce watering and allow the plant to rest while still enjoying steady indoor temperatures typical of European homes.
🐛 Common Issues
- Yellowing leaves: usually overwatering
- Brown edges: dry air or underwatering
- Watch for spider mites in dry indoor climates
🧬 Botanical Background
Philodendron 'Black Cardinal' is a hybrid variety within the Araceae family. Cherished for its dramatic foliage and compact size, it originates from breeding programs that highlight unique coloration—making it a collector’s favorite across Europe.
