Introducing the Aeonium 'Sunburst', which is a striking succulent plant that has a large rosette of variegated leaves and belongs to the Aeonium genus. Native to the Canary Islands, the Aeonium sunburst has several other common names such as Copper pinwheel, Aeonium decorum tricolor, sunburst aeonium, Copper pinwheel tricolor, or Aeonium decorum sunburst.

The sunburst aeonium is visually appealing and is an easy-to-care-for succulent plant with variegated leaves resembling pinwheels. Its vibrant color adds warmth and elegance to rock gardens or indoor spaces, making it a popular choice among plant enthusiasts.

The foliage is a captivating display of vibrant colors, with each leaf's center being bright green and the outer edges adorned with yellow, cream, pink, or orange shades.

This coloration can become more intense when exposed to direct sunlight.

The Aeonium sunburst can grow up to 24 inches tall into mature plants.

The Aeonium sunburst blooms in spring with small, star-shaped pale yellow-white flowers.

Aeoniums are monocarpic succulents, meaning that the individual rosette dies after flowering, but this usually happens after many years of growth—not immediately. The Aeonium Sunburst produces a tall, delicate flower stalk that can attract pollinators like bees and butterflies before the blooming rosette eventually withers. However, if the plant has multiple rosettes, only the flowering one dies, while the rest continue growing, allowing the plant to thrive for many seasons.

Additionally, it’s important to note that the Copper pinwheel sunburst aeonium is considered friendly to both humans and pets.

When and How to Water Your Aeonium Sunburst

In the spring, during the growing season, the Aeonium Sunburst has moderate watering needs. It's important to keep the soil evenly moist but protect it from too much moisture, as constantly wet soil can damage your plant. Allow the top inch of soil to dry out between waterings and then water thoroughly, making sure the water reaches the root zone. It's always a good idea to check the moisture level of the soil before watering to avoid overwatering, which can lead to root rot.

Aeoniums can go dormant in summer and don't need water except in dry conditions. Water moderately and feed every two or three weeks with a balanced liquid feed. In winter, restrict water to prevent shriveling foliage.

Light Requirements - Where to Place Your Aeonium Sunburst

When growing indoors as a houseplant, it thrives in bright, indirect light. Place it near a window where it can receive 4-6 hours of bright, filtered sunlight each day. However, be cautious of placing it in direct, harsh sunlight as it can scorch the leaves. If you notice the leaves stretching or becoming leggy, it may be an indication that it needs more bright sunlight. In that case, consider using a grow light to supplement its light requirements.

If you are growing your Aeonium sunburst outdoors, it enjoys full sun to partial shade.

It can tolerate direct sunlight, but it's important to acclimate it gradually to prevent sunburn.

Start by placing it in a spot with partial shade and gradually expose it to more sunlight over a few weeks. This will help the plant adjust to the intensity of the sun.

Just make sure it gets a minimum of 4-6 hours of sunlight each day for optimal growth and coloration.

Optimal Soil & Fertilizer Needs

When it comes to soil, the Aeonium sunburst pinwheel prefers well-drained soil that allows excess water to flow through easily. Instead, make or buy a well-draining potting mix, or ideally use our that contains 5 natural substrates and mycorrhizae to promote the development of a strong root system that helps your sunburst succulent to thrive.

During the growing season, you can use a balanced (5-10-5), water-soluble NPK fertilizer specifically formulated for succulent plants. Remember, it's always better to under-fertilize than over-fertilize, as excessive nutrients can cause damage to the plant.

During the dormant period, which is typically in fall and winter, it's best to avoid fertilizing altogether. The plant's growth slows down during this time, and it doesn't require as much nutrients. Instead, focus on providing the plant with proper light and water to support its resting phase.

Hardiness Zone & More

When growing your sunburst succulent plant indoors as a houseplant, it prefers temperatures between 60-75°F. It's important to avoid extreme temperature fluctuations and drafts, as they can stress the plant. You don't need to worry too much about providing extra humidity, but if the air in your home is very dry, you can occasionally mist the leaves with water to increase humidity around the sunburst aeonium.

In the United States, this Aeonium sunburst is mostly an indoor plant, but if you live in southern Florida or Hawaii, then you can cultivate it outdoors in USDA zones 9-11.

It can handle temperatures as low as 30°F, but it's best to protect it from frost damage and freezing temperatures.

If you live in a colder climate, you can grow it as a potted plant and bring it indoors during the winter months.

As for humidity, the Aeonium Sunburst can tolerate a wide range of humidity levels, from dry to moderately humid. Just make sure the soil is well-drained to prevent waterlogged conditions, which can lead to root rot.

Wildlife - Aeonium Flowers Attract the Following Friendly Pollinators

The Aeonium Sunburst attracts a variety of pollinators such as bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds with its bright and colorful flowers. These pollinators play a crucial role in the ecosystem by helping to facilitate the reproduction of plants through pollination.

Butterflies
Bees
Hummingbirds
Lady Bugs
Multi Pollinators
Other Birds

According to ASPCA, the Aeonium sunburst succulent is generally considered non-toxic to humans, dogs, and cats. It is safe to touch and handle, making it a great choice for households with pets or young children.

How to Propagate Your Aeonium Sunburst

Aeonium Sunburst can be propagated through stem cuttings. To do this, simply cut a healthy stem from the plant and allow it to callous over for a few days before planting it in well-draining soil. Keep the soil moist but not waterlogged, and place the cutting in a location with bright, indirect sunlight to encourage root growth.

Key Takeaways

  1. The foliage of Aeonium 'Sunburst' forms large, symmetrical rosettes with a striking blend of green centers, creamy yellow margins, and pink-tinged edges when exposed to bright sunlight.
  2. This variegated succulent develops its most vibrant colors in full sun, with the yellow and pink tones becoming more pronounced in warm temperatures.

The BEST Frother!!! (with a ONE YEAR UPDATE as of February 2026!)
Color: Black, Size: normal
I absolutely LOVE this little gem of a product. LOVE IT!! I use this thing every single day to mix up powdered collagen into a latte. It is so much fun to use. Every time I use it I sing out loud, "Oh little frother....where have you been all my life??" Ha ha! My brother had one at his house that we used to make whipped cream from heavy cream and I was honestly amazed at how quickly 2-3 ounces of heavy cream turned into delicious whipped cream for our coffees (like less than 10 seconds!) My brother has the kind that rests on a little stand, but honestly I did not want that type because the stand seemed unstable and honestly, a PITA to have standing on the counter. I like that this one does not have a stand. At first I thought the battery was going to die instantly, because it slowed down at first when I tried the first few times. But, I figured out how to use it and the trick of it is to not submerge it too far down into the drink where the little motor will struggle to keep up. Instead, I move it around a bit, giving it little periods of rest towards the top of the drink where the motor can more easily whip the liquid around. I have had this several months and the original battery just keeps on chuggin' even with daily use. The speed is crazy fast and makes the milk froth up so nicely. My collagen gets mixed up within seconds. I am talking 3-5 seconds at most. This little guy is an absolute MUST for anyone wanting to mix up protein powder, collagen, powdered vitamins/quercetin (which is famous for being extremely difficult to mix into orange juice.) It works that great. I seriously just love using it so much and should have bought one years ago. It is rare to buy a product that is super reasonable in cost and turns out to work really well and be worth every penny. It is also very easy to clean--a quick rinse under the faucet or a little sudsy scrub and you are good to go for the next time. I sought out this particular brand after reading another customer's review of a different brand frother. She pointed out that this brand was head and shoulders above the other types she has tried and I believe she is probably right. The "ON" button is at the top so it does not get in the way or splashed with liquid or anything. I use this with other drinks too, like to mix lemon juice with stevia sweetener into water, MSM powder into pomegranite juice, and just regular coffee with half and half to give the coffee a more luxurious mouthfeel when I do not feel like taking the time to make a latte or cappuccino. This frother is seriously the best. I wish there was a different color to select other than black but it was not a deal breaker, obviously. I would 100% purchase this again if needed. UPDATE, 02/21/26: I have now had this little frother for ONE FULL YEAR! And I am here to say that, in my humble opinion, it has won my personal award for "Best Product Purchased For Me" for the year 2025! I use this little guy EVERY day to make a latte, and sometimes multiple times a day to mix up other drinks, and he is just chuggin' along on the same battery as the day he arrived in the mail back in February 2025. Now my husband is hooked on it too. Here are the drinks we have used it for in the past year: - whirling up MCT oil into coffee; - mixing baking soda, water, and flavored stevia drops (it's an emergency stomach ulcer elixir that I drink sometimes) - frothing up raw, organic cocoa powder with milk and sugar - my daily lattes with collagen powder - mixing up any number of liquid vitamin tinctures that I take with water - whipping up a teaspoon of wheatgrass powder into 2 or 3 ounces of water for a quick shot - as stated earlier, mixing thoroughly quercetin and vitamin C powders into orange juice I am sure I have used it for a few other drinks but these are the ones we use it for the most. I stand by my original review and opinion. This is, hands down, THE BEST MINI FROTHER!! Congratulations little frother, on winning the award for being the best purchase for me in the year 2025! I will come back here in February 2027 with a brief update on how my little frother is working 24 months from purchase. ANOTHER UPDATE, 05/26/26: The two double AA batteries FINALLY took their last breath on May 26, 2026. The original batteries lasted a full one year and four months (and someone has used it AT LEAST once per day, every day, without fail.) Two brand new batteries went in, and I guess it must be because the batteries are 100% fresh, but I swear that now this frother is working even better than the day I got it!

Great Mixer At A Great Price.
Color: Black, Size: normal
I purchased this mixer over 6 months ago. I use it at least 2 to 3 times a day to mix fiber into a flavored drink. It also gets used for mixing gravy and Chinese sauces. So from light to medium duty and no problems at all. One battery lasted over 4 months. I did try an alternate wand mixer($15 to $20) with variable speed to try and slow the mixing down a bit. It's low speed(fast) was the same as this mixer so I sent it back and kept this one. In addition to being more economical the simplicity of the single speed should give it good reliability. Lastly, if it gets damaged you're only out ~$7.00

Easy and it works
Color: Silver, Size: Compact
It works! It doesn’t have different speed settings, and you have to make sure you have the right kind of milk, but so far it’s been great and easy to use.

Simple upgrade that actually feels worth it
Color: Black, Size: normal
I replaced a cheap milk frother I had from Walmart with this one, and it’s definitely an upgrade. Right out of the box it just feels a bit nicer and more solid, not flimsy like the other one. It’s also noticeably more powerful. It froths milk really quickly and does what it’s supposed to without any effort. I did notice it only has one ring on the whisk compared to the two on my old one, but I honestly don’t notice any difference in how it works. Only small thing was getting the batteries in, which was a little tighter than I expected. Not a big deal, just took a second. Overall, it just works well and feels worth the price. I’ve only had it for a short time, but so far I’m happy with it and hoping it holds up.
