Invite a touch of the exotic into your home with the 'Tigress' Chinese Evergreen, Aglaonema 'Tigress'. This striking houseplant is highly sought after for its dramatic foliage, featuring large, glossy olive-green leaves boldly striped and variegated with shimmering silver, creating a captivating "tiger stripe" effect. With an upright, spreading habit, it typically grows to about 2 to 3 feet tall and wide indoors, making it a fantastic floor accent or a substantial tabletop plant as it matures.
The 'Tigress' Chinese Evergreen is celebrated for its adaptability to a range of indoor lighting conditions. It truly shines in medium to bright, indirect light, which helps to intensify its vibrant variegation. However, it's also incredibly tolerant of lower light environments, making it a perfect choice for those less-than-sunny spots where other plants might struggle. Just be sure to protect it from direct sunlight, especially in the intense Prescott sun, as this can scorch its beautiful leaves.
It's important to be aware that all Chinese Evergreens, including 'Tigress', contain calcium oxalate crystals and are considered toxic if ingested. While typically causing only oral irritation, pain, and swelling, it's best to keep this plant out of reach of curious pets and small children to prevent any unpleasant encounters.
When your 'Tigress' Chinese Evergreen needs repotting, use Watters Potting Soil. This well-draining yet moisture-retentive blend will provide the ideal growing medium, promoting strong root development. To keep its stunning foliage looking its best and encourage new growth, feed your plant every 2-4 weeks during the active growing season (spring and summer) with Urban Gardener's Super Growth Elixir or Fertilome's All Purpose Houseplant Food. You'll love the enduring beauty and easy-care nature of this magnificent plant!
