Pumice Volcanic Horticultural Media - Bonsai & Alpine Soil - 2-4mm

We go to great lengths to bring you this special fine-grain graded volcanic horticultural pumice. This FINE GRADE is used in all the best bonsai growing soil mixes. Gives the most spectacular results when used mixed with our Chipped Bark for growing all varieties of Pine Bonsai. Used as a proportion of any soil mix this product will help to increase the strength and vitality of all plants.

100% frost proof, lasts indefinitely and can be re-used over and over. Fine particle promotes drainage whilst allowing moisture into the particle for gradual release to plant roots even in relatively small pots.

By far the best grade of pumice available for use in medium and small-size bonsai pots.

2-4mm mesh graded to produce an approximate particle size close to this range.

Pumice is a naturally occurring product. The colour of this material will vary depending upon the deposits being mined and also the moisture content. Pictures are for illustration and represent what the product typically looks like.

A FANTASTIC PRODUCT FOR GROWING CACTI, ALPINES AND CITRUS.

Using Kaizen Bonsai Pumice & Lapillo
Our Pumice and Lapillo products are horticultural grade materials. Their use is a little different from other similar products you may have encountered, especially pumice where less absorbent hard grade (intended as industrial abrasive) materials are most commonly encountered. In general we would recommend mixing these products with other ingredients with desirable characteristics, for example Bark or Moler. For more information see our Guide to Selecting Bonsai Soils.

2-4mm particle size which means all of the particles will pass through a 4mm screen so some pieces will be oversize in length.

When you receive your Pumice or Lapillo you will notice the material contains some degree of fines or dust. This is as a result of abrasive action during processing, packaging and transit. Being slightly damp this will bind to the particles. A light shake through a sieve will remove the loose fine particles.  Do not sieve excessively but simply mix and or pot up your plants in the normal way. Once complete water thoroughly, watching the water that drains from the bottom of the pot, once this runs clear you are finished. The finer dust will simply wash away leaving a very high percentage of clean micro-pores that will be colonised by fine feeder roots and mycelium resulting in the perfect natural rhizosphere and will ensure your plants absolutely flourish.

Any dust contained within our crushed aggregate products will settle into the spaces between larger particles and once removed will not significantly effect the volume you purchased.

Precision at Its Finest for Espresso Enthusiasts
Color: Black, Color: Black
As a passionate home barista, I recently incorporated the WDT Espresso Distribution Tool into my espresso routine, and I am absolutely thrilled with the results. This tool is a game-changer, providing unparalleled precision in coffee distribution. Here's why it deserves a solid 5-star review: Pros: Seven Needle Design: The 0.35mm seven needles of the WDT tool are ingeniously crafted, ensuring uniform distribution of coffee grounds in the portafilter. This results in a more consistent and even extraction, elevating the quality of each shot. Eliminates Clumping: One of the standout features is its ability to eliminate clumping effectively. The fine needles effortlessly break up any clumps in the coffee grounds, guaranteeing a smooth and even bed for tamping. User-Friendly: The WDT tool is incredibly easy to use. The ergonomic design allows for a comfortable grip, and the needles move smoothly through the coffee grounds. It has become an essential part of my pre-brew routine, taking only seconds to create a uniform coffee bed. Sturdy Build: The build quality is top-notch. The stainless steel construction not only gives the tool a premium feel but also ensures durability. It's a tool that feels like it's built to last, making it a worthwhile investment for any espresso enthusiast. Enhanced Espresso Flavor: The consistent distribution achieved with the WDT tool translates to a more balanced and flavorful espresso. The precision it offers has noticeably improved the taste profile of my shots. Easy to Clean: Cleaning the WDT tool is a breeze. The design minimizes any grounds getting stuck, and a quick rinse under water is all it takes to keep it ready for the next use. In summary, the WDT Espresso Distribution Tool has exceeded my expectations in every aspect. Its thoughtful design, impeccable construction, and the positive impact on espresso quality make it a must-have for any serious home barista. If you're looking to take your espresso game to the next level, the WDT tool is an excellent investment that delivers consistent and exceptional results. A solid 5-star recommendation from a satisfied coffee enthusiast!

Sturdy tool for improving coffee distribution
Color: Black
For those who do not know what this tool does: The Weiss Distribution Technique (WDT) is a distribution method for espresso making, by which you use the tool to stir the coffee while it sits in the portafilter. You should use a portafilter funnel of the same size to avoid spilling grinds. The stirring action breaks up clumps and evens out the density of coffee within the puck. The result is reduced channeling and more even extractions. Who needs this tool: Those without a conical burr grinder, where the oil and variety of grind sizing may cause clumping, will benefit from this tool. Those with a decent conical burr grinder will find minimal benefit from this tool. I'm using a Breville Pro and do not see a huge improvement myself, for example. Quality: The build quality of this tool is excellent. You can add from one to seven needles, with many folks saying three is the sweet spot for best distribution. I've been using it for over a month and none of the needles have bent. The stand is solid aluminum and well-made, but it doubles as a protector of the needles. I just clean with a quick rinse and a wipe before returning it to its stand. Outcome: I did not realize most of the info above until after purchase. So my puck is solid, the pull is clean, and my coffee tastes great with a Breville Pro. However, this tool has a minimal amount to do with that. It is a worthwhile tool for those with a lower-end grinder, especially non-Burr grinders, and it is aesthetically-pleasing and well-made, which is why I rate it 5 stars overall. It also is of good value compared to more expensive variants.

Top quality tool that improves espresso extraction
Color: Gray
Fantastic and easy to use. Stand sits on top of espresso machine and the WDT tool is always ready, no unscrewing. Upgraded from a screw-shut version and couldn't be happier. Comes with extra needles which I hope to never need. Easy to recommend

Makes a difference but maybe only to caffeine addled coffee snobs
Color: Black
I won't say that everyone urgently needs one of these. This is helped me up my game. Perhaps not absolutely necessary, but it noticeably reduces canalization and improves extraction. And it appears to have improved not only my espresso, but my pour-overs and my Mokapot (especially the Mokapot!). It's a little fiddley to assemble - there's sets of springs and needles - but once you get it all locked down, its very tight. There's a set of spares - I can't imagine needing them. The tool kinda sits in the weighted base, but it appears to stay put in my cabinet.
