Heptapleurum (Schefflera) arboricola 'Gold Capella'

Heptapleurum (Schefflera) arboricola 'Gold Capella' is a yellow-variegated dwarf umbrella tree with glossy green palmate leaves margined in light yellow. On mature growth, the leaves can reach around 20 cm across, giving this cultivar a fuller foliage display than smaller young plants suggest.

'Gold Capella' grows as an evergreen woody shrub and can become a larger indoor specimen with time, pruning and root space. Outdoors or under glass it is described as reaching several metres, while indoor plants are usually kept smaller through pot size and regular trimming.

Yellow margins and fuller umbrella leaves

  • Variegation: Glossy green leaflets with light yellow margins.
  • Leaf size: Mature palmate leaves can reach around 20 cm across.
  • Habit: Evergreen woody shrub that can be trained as a bushy plant or taller indoor specimen.
  • Growth response: Prunes well, making height and branching easier to manage.
  • Flowering: Flowers are seldom produced in cultivation; the glossy variegated leaf clusters remain the visible feature indoors.

How 'Gold Capella' matures into a woody shrub

Heptapleurum arboricola is native to Hainan and Taiwan and grows primarily in wet tropical conditions. The species is a scrambling shrub in nature, but in indoor cultivation it behaves as a woody potted shrub with upright stems and repeated leaf clusters. 'Gold Capella' keeps that durable shrub habit and adds a clear yellow-margined leaf pattern.

Older plants can become woody at the base and more open in the middle when light is low or pruning is skipped for years. Regular light pruning creates new branching points and keeps the foliage closer to the stem. The pale margins are more sensitive to harsh sun than green tissue, so filtered brightness is better than hot direct exposure.

Care for a yellow-margined umbrella tree

  • Light: Bright indirect light keeps the yellow-margined leaflets firm. Medium light is tolerated, but new growth may be more open and slower.
  • Watering: Water when the upper 25–35% of the potting mix has dried. Give a full soak and let the pot drain completely.
  • Substrate: Choose a free-draining mix with organic matter and mineral aeration for roots that need moisture followed by oxygen.
  • Temperature: Keep between about 18–27 °C. Cold drafts and damp substrate can trigger leaf drop and root stress.
  • Humidity: Average indoor humidity is usually enough for established plants. Very dry conditions can make spider mites more likely on the glossy leaflets.
  • Feeding: Feed lightly through active growth. A brighter, actively growing plant can use more nutrients than one kept cooler or darker.
  • Pruning: Cut above a leaf node to control height and encourage side shoots. This is especially helpful for older plants with bare lower stems.
  • Repotting: Repot when roots are crowded, watering becomes hard to judge or the heavier top growth starts to unbalance the pot. Step up gradually rather than moving into an oversized container.
  • Summer outdoors: In warm frost-free weather, place outside only in bright shade with shelter from wind and midday sun. Bring it back before nights fall below about 15 °C.

Leaf drop, brown margins and stem problems

  • Leaf drop: Usually follows a sudden move, cold exposure, overwatering or drought. Stabilise care before making repeated changes.
  • Brown yellow margins: Check for sun scorch, dry roots or fertiliser build-up in the substrate.
  • Soft lower stem: This suggests a serious root or stem issue from persistent wetness. Remove the plant from standing water and check the roots.
  • Sticky residue on leaves: Inspect for scale insects, especially on stems and under leaflets.
  • Weak, stretched growth: Move the plant into brighter filtered light and prune back thin stems during active growth.

Pet safety and skin contact

Heptapleurum arboricola 'Gold Capella' is toxic if eaten and should be kept away from pets that chew plants. The sap and leaves can irritate the mouth, throat and digestive tract, and sap may irritate sensitive skin. Wear gloves if your skin reacts easily to plant sap.

Botanical name and cultivar background

Heptapleurum arboricola is the accepted botanical name for the species still often known as Schefflera arboricola. The species was first published by Hayata and belongs to the Araliaceae family. Arboricola means “dwelling in or on trees”. 'Gold Capella' is a recognised cultivar name for this yellow-margined selection.

Heptapleurum (Schefflera) arboricola 'Gold Capella' can grow from a small variegated shrub into a fuller indoor umbrella plant with regular trimming.

Solid Kit That Saves You Some Money
Color: Saros 10R/Qrevo CurvX Accessories Kit, Color: Saros 10R/Qrevo CurvX Accessories Kit
I ordered this accessories kit for my Roborock Saros 10R mostly because I didn’t feel like spending a ton just to keep up with teh normal maintenance. After using it for a bit, I can say it’s been doing exactly what I hoped it would. First thing you notice is the cost of course, keeping these robot vacuums running can add up fast, and this kit really helps take the sting out of replacing the usual wear parts. Most of the pieces line up with the Saros 10R really well. Everything went in without a fight and once installed, it all works the way it should. Brushes rotate fine, filters sit where they’re supposed to, and nothing feels janky or poorly sized. Quality wise, it’s pretty close to the name brand stuff. You can tell there’s a small difference if you really look for it on some parts. Some of the plastic feels a bit lighter and a couple items don’t have that same premium feel. But in use, I’m not seeing much of a difference, cleaning performance is still strong and the vacuum hasn’t skipped a beat. Durability is the one thing you can’t fully judge right away. So far though, everything seems to be holding up nicely. No fraying, cracking, or early wear, so I’m cautiously optimistic they’ll last about as long as the originls. Overall, this kit is a good deal for the money. It does what it’s suposed to, saves you some cash, and keeps the Saros 10R running smoothly. Not perfect, but definitely worth it. Four stars.

most can fit saros 10, but not all
Color: Saros 10R/Qrevo CurvX Accessories Kit, Color: Saros 10R/Qrevo CurvX Accessories Kit
I should have done a little more research with these. I purchased this for a Saros 10, i thought the Saros 10 and 10R was basically the same besides the filters. I was wrong. Although the brushes are the same size, they didnt fit. They lacked a special metal piece on one side, and the 10R has a different shape on the other, cant even jerry rig it to fit. The filters didnt fit my Saros 10, but that didnt cause the dropped rating, but they quality of it looks very good, and seems well made. The side brushes are good and they fit my Saros 10, replaced them and didnt have a problem. The bags also fit and they are very good. The mopping brushes did not fit, but it was very well made and definitely wasnt just a cheap set. The brush and screw driver were just to add additional number counts and basically useless.

Everything you need for your robot maintenance
Color: Saros 10r-20/Qrevo Curvx Accessories, Color: Saros 10r-20/Qrevo Curvx Accessories
Automatic floor robots are a great convenience and, at this point, I can't picture our house without one. Being able to turn them on at night and wake up to vacuum and mopped floors is pretty amazing. The problem is that you eventually have to do maintenance on them to keep them running. I guess it's not that much to ask of you since they do go for a long time with only water refills and waste water dumps. It's hard to find kits that are comprehensive enough to cover all the needs, so when I saw this one, I had to pick it up. The kit contains multiples of every consumable on the Roborock (ours is named Mrs. Nesbit). It also comes with a screwdriver and a blade/brush to clean dirt and hair. The small spinning brush is easy to replace, and the only one you need the screwdriver for. The mopping pad functional on the Roborock is one of my favorite features, so having multiple replacements makes this kit very attractive. They simple peel off of the Velcro and lay back the same. The split rollers take a minute to figure out, but you don't need to loosen the screws - they pull right off the U shaped plastic pieces they are attached to, but keep track of which goes with which color because each plastic piece only goes back on its correct side. The easiest to replace is the filter on the dust bin in the robot since it just pops out and the new one fits in. The lasts step is to replace the dust bag in the base itself, which is very simple. Overall, the quality and fit of all the pieces included in this kit were great. I didn't run across anything that was off or I had to force on. While my pads and brushes weren't as bad as my other vacuum (named The Beast), the vacuum had been warning me that their life was coming to an end and I needed to swap them out. Now I have multiple replacements for the future and my Roborock is good to go for many months. I will be picking this kit up again when I run out and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it at this price point.

Good Budget Replacement Set, but Mop Pads Differ from Original
Color: Saros 10r-20/Qrevo Curvx Accessories
These replacement accessories fit my Roborock Qrevo S5 without any issues. I run my robot daily because I have a dog, so I go through mop pads pretty quickly and have already used this set for a couple of cleaning runs around the house on vinyl floors. The bags seal properly, and I did not notice any loss of suction or performance with the filters compared to the original parts. The biggest difference was the mop pads themselves. They feel noticeably different from the OEM Roborock ones and seem a bit lower in quality. Even so, they still got the job done for normal daily cleaning and handled pet hair and dirt well. Since the original pads also wear out for me after multiple washes, this set still feels like a practical and more affordable alternative overall.

Not as good as the oem accessories
Color: Saros 10r-20/Qrevo Curvx Accessories, Color: Saros 10r-20/Qrevo Curvx Accessories
I have a roborock saros 10r and all of these accessories seem to be compatible and work with my robovac however the quality of them isn’t nearly the same level. The mop pads material are much coarser and less fine than the original. The side brushed bristles weren’t nearly as tightly bound together. The roller brush isn’t as well made. The cleaning performance I think is similar but i suspect they will not last as long as the oem accessories which are just much better made. Over it’s a mix on value.
