The forests and the oceans of Hawaiʻi teem with life. There are well over a thousand species of fish that occur in our islands and 20% of the reef fish are endemic. Along with the many delicious species of reef fish—a critical part of the Hawaiʻi diet—there are a handful of species that seem mostly decorative. One of these is the moa fish (aka pahu, spotted boxfish, Ostracion meleagris). A mostly peaceful reef dweller that typically grows up to six inches, the moa fish feeds on limu and tiny marine organisms. The boxy shape of its body is formed by fused scales and it’s beautifully covered in small dots. Moa color schemes and patterns were gifted by Kāne and Kanaloa, who gave all the fish their colors and markings. This account inspired the ʻōlelo for this design: Kikiko ʻia i ka nani o ka lipo - Marked in the beauty of the depths. Not just for the ocean, the term lipo in ʻōlelo Hawaiʻi also extends to the depths of the forest, the home of the other species featured here: hulumoa (aka kaumahana, Korthalsella latissima, or Hawaiʻi mistletoe). This herbaceous, parasitic plant grows on host trees (lama, koaiʻa, ʻolopua, kōpiko, ʻōhiʻa,  koa). It has a “highly reduced” form (well under a foot tall) and is mostly flattened stems. At the nodes in the stems it bears clusters of tiny, also reduced flowers that give it the appearance of having spots as well. Linked in name and form, these two species may not be as large and well known as other Hawaiʻi organisms, but they play their own important roles in the ecosystems of sea and land; humble kūpuna in the wider ʻohana of life.

Fun, Easy Read
Format: Kindle
A really fun, easy read! The main character was really likeable, and the male main characters were engaging and fun. Is this book going to change your life or reinvent literature? No. Is it an enjoyable read free from distracting errors that I plowed through in an afternoon? Yes. On to book two!

Knotty Omegas series is a work of art!!
Format: Kindle
A.J. Shirley has done it again. I was hesitant to read this book because of the premise of omegaverse, but I loved Shirley's Aegis Saga so much that I decided to give this a try. I finished it faster than any other book I've ever read. I fell in love with Serenity, her sharp wit, her creativity, and her ability to hope and love despite her horrible past. I loved witnessing her healing journey. Her chemistry and connection with the pack made my heart race. The men were incredibly lovable and snuggly. And the spice was SPICY. Buckle up.

Knot their style
Format: Kindle
So I really enjoyed the story. I don’t really like dark omegaverse, surprisingly from the themes it did not go Dark. Instead, it stayed sweet. I like Serenity, you can tell just by the first scene that she was a fighter. She had to save her own life. Once she did save her own life she gets hit by a car. So then Pack Rhodes saves her life, I mean what do you do with a unconscious abused omega that you may or may not have hit with your car. Take her home of course. Loved this book and cant wait for the next one

Cute read
Format: Kindle
Overall, this was a cute read. I liked the characters mostly. Remy was a bit ridiculous at points. Would consider reading more by this author.

very cute!
Format: Kindle
This is my first read from this author. The story was very cute with some angsty moments. I loved the way the different MMCs helped the FMC as she recovered from the trauma she endured. It was a great way to highlight their personalities!
