This elegant vintage evening dress by Montreal designer Lillian Farrar is a striking example of sophisticated 1940s couture glamour. Crafted in fluid black silk crepe, the gown features padded shoulders, overlapped cap sleeves, an asymmetric neckline and elaborate black crystal beaded appliqué on the right shoulder and along the right neckline, down the left side of the skirt, and down the back in a design strongly evocative of Art Deco elegance and Old Hollywood evening wear.

The silhouette is long, graceful, and architectural, balancing strong wartime-era padded shoulders with soft draping through the body and hips. The asymmetrical neckline creates a particularly elegant effect, while the dimensional black beadwork catches the light subtly against the matte crepe background. The result is dramatic without being flashy — exactly the sort of refined glamour associated with high-end 1940s cocktail and formal fashions.

The dress cinches internally with hidden waist ties, helping to shape the silhouette while maintaining the fluid drape of the fabric. The back is especially beautiful, with a trailing arrangement of black beaded motifs descending diagonally from the shoulder to the waistline.

Label reads Lillian Farrar Montreal Creation.  This is an earlier Lillian Farrar label.  Farrar started off as a seamstress during the 1940s.  She started on St Lawrence St., moved to a suite in the Ritz Carlton and then, in 1946, she opened her first salon, located right downtown on fashionable Peel Street in Montreal, next to the Mount Royal Sheraton Hotel.  By 1957 she had grown her business to 400 regular clients and had a reputation for being ahead of the trends, even introducing styles before the Paris fashion houses.  She designed a coat for Princess Elizabeth, prior to her becoming Queen Elizabeth II, on the occasion of the Royal Visit to Canada in 1951.

Incredible book!!
Format: Kindle
August 16, 2025 I confess that I have not yet read conversations 1,2 or 3 but this one caught my eye so I started reading. Very great book! I enjoyed the chapters on light and on giving, I really appreciate the candidness of Father God, it got me when he said “I’m not asking you to take care of EVERY homeless person… what I am asking you to do is to take care of one!” Father God then continued “if you take away one thing from this book… give to the homeless, buy them a meal, buy them a drink and give them some money. Ask them how their day is going today and just treat them like human beings! When you ignore them, it is like you are ignoring my son Jesus!” So good! I also love how father God said: “we are not asking you to do the impossible, just obey the commands and the teachings of my son Jesus, just be the light and love people” and I love how the Father delved into the details! I hope that this review helps and I’ll be reading 7 keys to be intimate with Jesus soon. Amen! Thank you Father & thank you Matthew Robert for writing this and God bless you sir if you read this review 👍🏿

State of the Art Book!
This book was recommended to me by my graduate school professor as being the most up-to-date, most inclusive book on trauma therapy that exists today, and that it is! First, it is written in an organized and coherent manner. It is extraordinarily well written and engaging which is amazing for a text of this type. It contains information on just about every subject that a beginning trauma therapist as well as a well-seasoned therapist would want to know! This is an incredible book and my only criticism is that, knowing how much I shall be referring to it, it is only a paperback and I wish it were a hardcover so that it will withstand the test of time in better condition. The price is extraordinarily reasonable when one considers the cost of most textbooks these days. I highly, highly recommend this book as a MUST read for every trauma therapist, or trauma therapist in training. I cannot say enough excellent things about the Briere and Scott text. Buy it. You will not regret it for a moment! In addition, after purchasing the DSM-V, I can say that although this book was written before the DSM-V came out, it dovetails with it extremely well, and is a perfect book to purchase after getting the new DSM-V if you don't already have Principles of Trauma Therapy. It is for anyone who is a mandated reporter also, as I am. Presently, I'm a doctoral candidate in Special Education, and find that this book will be helpful there as well. As a person who has worked directly in Special Education for over 11 years, and have had professional contact with Special Needs children for over thirty years, this book is a must--for anyone who works with children, teens, (or adults who have just disclosed trauma) whether you are in Psychology or Special Education, or any allied field that makes you a mandated reporter. The book is a MUST HAVE.

Excellent book for students trying to grasp PTSD
As a professor teaching post traumatic stress reaction to graduate and undergraduate students, I was looking for a book that hit the basics along with some key pieces regarding assessment, diagnostic criteria, and examples that highlighted some of the subtleties associated with complex trauma. This book is well organized and not too overwhelming for people new and beginning the field and a nice refresher for seasoned clinicians. Easy to read, clearly outlined to build upon each subject, I found it both a solid read, affordable, and made it a required read for my course. Please note that I purchased this book way back October 12, 2013 but only now getting to put my thoughts in writing.
