An awning stripe is quintessential Jermyn Street, with wide, even lines of blue and white. It's bold, but surprisingly easy to wear, and it makes for a super-old-school-menswear dress shirt. This one's got a modified spread collar with lightweight, fused interlining to lend some structure. (A little inside baseball: the collar point length is designed to sit in perfect harmony with the widths of our ties and our jacket lapels, all 8cm exactly.) The cut is slim but never skinny, with a high armhole for mobility and a shirttail long enough to stay tucked in. It's made with single-needle stitching, 22 stitches/inch, flat-felled seams, and thick, 3.5mm Trocas shell buttons. And while they're designed to look fantastic with a tie, all of our dress shirts can be opened up and worn more casually — in fact, on weekends, we wear them as sport shirts.

An epic naval history decades in the making
Format: Hardcover
Excellent ending to Dr. Rodger's three book series "A Naval History of Britain", with the same level of detail and interesting presentation of facts I have come to expect from reading other of his works over the years. For anyone interested in a comprehensive naval history of Britain (from which the US Navy inherited much of its tradition), I would highly recommend this series. In addition, "The Wooden World: An Anatomy of the Georgian Navy" is also quite a good read. My (incomplete, sadly) collection of Dr. Rodger's works will continue to hold a special place on my naval history shelf for easy reference in the future. I also hope Dr. Rodger's health has improved. The shipper unfortunately did not pack this book well, resulting in minor damage (mostly cosmetic - book is still entirely readable).

Answers Many Questions about Naval Developments
Format: Hardcover
The history offers a detailed and well organized account of the Royal Navy as it transitioned from sail to steam. Coverage included personalities, technology, tactics and strategy. The combination provided a complete appreciation of the dynamics at play, some unexpectedly. The details might be a bit much for a casual reader but offered plenty of avenues for research not available or compiled in one source. I look forward to the final volume, which should describe another watershed era.

Great Book with a different perspective
Format: Hardcover
This will be a short review of a very long book. I ordered the book expecting more of a history of the British Navy, but this is more of a history of Britain with respect to its navy. It is still excellent and authoritative, just different than I expected. I really appreciate a somewhat different perspective than I have found in some other books. For example, any discussion of Jackie Fisher I have read previously seemed to border on the hagiographic, whereas here he seems to get a very evenhanded appraisal. A great book, highly recommended.
