The Ped uses membrane switches (like a microwave), and as such kind of requires that you use hard-soled shoes to actuate effectively. This version has two foot switches that physically move (like a scissor switch) so you can use them with whatever you perform in - including bare feet. 

Anyway, these devices are a must-have when you're using your tablet as a music reader. A bluetooth footpedal enables you to flip forward and backward in your score, hands-free.
