Schefflera arboricola, commonly called Umbrella Tree or Dwarf Schefflera, is a tropical plant grown for its glossy, palm-like leaf clusters. Native to Taiwan and southern China, it grows as a shrub or small tree in warm climates. What makes this plant special is the way multiple oval leaflets radiate from a central point, creating an umbrella shape, along with its ability to grow full and bushy or be trained into a tree form. The leaves are smooth, deep green or variegated, and slightly leathery, giving it a clean, structured look.

Light requirements
Place Schefflera arboricola in an east or south window for the best growth, positioned at the window or within 1 to 3 feet depending on intensity. A west window can also work, but monitor for harsh late-day sun, and a north window will slow growth and thin the plant out. Under grow lights, use 5000K to 6500K and keep the light 10 to 14 inches above the canopy. It performs best around 200 to 600 foot-candles. Brighter light will keep it fuller and more compact.

Watering & environment
Allow the soil to dry about halfway down before watering, and always check the root zone with a chopstick or meter. Use a well-draining mix and avoid letting the plant sit in excess moisture. It prefers average indoor humidity and benefits from steady airflow.

What your plant is telling you
If leaves begin to droop or feel lighter, it is ready for water. If leaves yellow and drop, especially from the base, the soil is staying too wet. If the plant becomes leggy or sparse, it needs more consistent light.

Do not buy this protection plan!
Warning! The details of this Warranty are misleading and make you feel like they will pretty much replace anything. I am trying to have stained discolored cushions replaced on lounge chairs, less than six months old. Talking to a customer service representative is out of the question. They ask a few multiple-choice questions and base your claim on that. My claim was denied and that is the end of it. I have spent $80.99 on two different asurion protection plans need and now I feel like I have wasted $162.00. I'm not happy and will never buy this protection plan again. Now I have to find and purchase new cushions for replacement.

Great chair
You sit on it more than in it. It's a bit firmer than my old one, but hopefully it will soften up as the years pass. Otherwise, great chair, easy to put together. The theater lights are a very cool touch at night.

Paid for Protection, Got Rejection — Asurion Makes Claims Unnecessarily Difficult
I purchased the 2-year Asurion protection plan along with my Mcombo recliner, expecting peace of mind in case something went wrong. Unfortunately, when I actually needed to use the plan, the experience was frustrating and disappointing from start to finish. I submitted a claim and uploaded every document available to me—order confirmation, invoice details, and proof of the protection plan purchased through Amazon. Despite this, I received a generic rejection email stating that “documents are missing,” without any explanation of what exactly was lacking. Trying to resolve the issue was even more frustrating. Finding a working customer service number was unnecessarily difficult. When I finally managed to speak with a representative, the interaction was unhelpful and dismissive. The agent requested a document that does not exist in my purchase records and offered no guidance on how to obtain it. There was no attempt to clarify, assist, or move the process forward—only a rigid insistence on requirements that were not properly explained. At no point did I feel that Asurion was trying to help resolve the claim. Instead, the process felt designed to discourage follow-through. A protection plan should simplify problems, not create new ones. Based on this experience, the coverage feels like wasted money rather than a safety net. I would strongly recommend reconsidering before purchasing an Asurion protection plan.
