"Urla" is an Italian verb which means "scream" in second person imperative (tu, urla = you, scream).

A loud, aggressive and experimental device which consists in 2 effects in 1 pedal unit, the URLA is a CMOS fuzz in front of a synth-based dual resonant filter.

CMOS fuzz

A CMOS chip works with digital logic (1, 0).
Compared to the transistor based fuzz circuits (both germanium or silicon), in a CMOS fuzz there is no "in-between", no "dynamic range", no "vintage tone" or anything like that. There are just 1s and 0s, so no matter which kind of waveshape you put into it: the output will always be square wave with no adjustable gain neither since the square wave is as distorted as it can get.
The URLA obviously makes no exceptions and it provides an overdriven, brutal, glitchy and gated fuzz sound with a decay that dies abruptly (but still allowing to sustain each note thanks to a bass boost stage that we put at the very beginning of the signal path).
It offers 2 controls: VOLUME and BLEND.

VOLUME (fuzz)

Adjusts the output level of the fuzz.

BLEND

As the name suggests, this control allows to blend the fuzz sound with the original signal placed in front of the URLA. Clean guitar tone is probably the most basic example in that sense but no doubt the bravest sonic adventures could find plenty of different as exciting solutions (e.g. as "wall of sounds" enthusiasts, we do love to place a shimmer reverb in front of it or some modulation as well to create different kind of textures). Being a fully analog jFET blend, it goes from almost completely DRY (counterclockwise) to 100% wet signal (clockwise).

DUAL RESONANT FILTER

This is the second effect placed in the internal signal chain of the URLA and it consists in a faithful replica of the analog filter section of the glorious Korg MS-20, simply our all times favorite vintage monophonic synthesizer.
It's an HIGH PASS filter connected in series with a LOW PASS one, both adjustable with their relative controls of CUTOFF and PEAK. Also, we added a dual potentiometer to control the VOLUME of both, which is pretty useful in order to dial with other output levels in chain (including the internal FUZZ placed in front).

VOLUME (filter)

Sets the output level of the dual filter.

CUTOFF

These knobs allow to decide where the frequencies (high ones by LP, low ones by HP) have to be cut. No doubt they're the most exciting controls of the URLA.
We placed those on the external sides of the pedal's surface exactly because of that: you'll love messing up with those as much as possible by exploring the wild excursions of both. In fact, depending on the place of their relative PEAK knobs, they can go approximately from 0hz (so you'll mute your signal completely when at least one of their respective knobs are fully closed) to 15kHz.

PEAK

While cutoffs allows to remove frequencies (harmonics) from the incoming audio signal, their respective resonances allow to have an additional controlled amplification of the cutoffs frequency, creating a secondary peak form and coloring the original pitch.
The resonances of the original Korg MS-20 are well known for their pretty wild and loud nature due their tendency to create a microphonic feedback at extreme settings. URLA makes no exceptions, so USE THESE KNOBS CAREFULLY: depending on the cutoffs positions (especially the one related to the LP since it's the last one in series) they really make your amp scream and/or boost low ends massively when set at high levels! For that reason, we highly recommend to keep the filter volume as low as possible when starting to dial with this effect.

EXPRESSION

We're not going to lie: if you'll not play the URLA with an expression pedal (by using a TRS cable) to control the cutoff of your favorite filter (HP or LP it's up to you: just place the EXP toggle switch where you prefer), you'll probably miss more than the 90% of the fun.
For that reason, our friend Luca Romanelli from Mastro Valvola (the same guy who wrote the code for the RESPIRA's shimmer) designed an expression input which works correctly with ANY expression pedal on the market.
But there's more: when the expression pedal is plugged into the URLA, you can still set the minimum (the starting point of the parameter you want to control with the expression pedal) by adjusting the relative cutoff knob.

As aggressive as experimental-friendly, URLA is our tribute to all the industrial, noise and alternative artists/records that made our world a better place to live.

Fantastic performance with respect to privacy and room temperature.
Color: Frost
While this standing room divider is tall and wide enough to provide a nice privacy barrier, it also allows light to filter through while maintaining that privacy. Assembly was easy with simple to follow directions and the only place I struggled was in pulling the fabric down to connect it. Similar to putting on a compression sock- it takes time and stretching/pulling. I don't think I ever got it to line up completely at the bottom and velcro together like it should, but it is a fantastic benefit. I have a home office on the ground floor, so when the curtains are open, it's not entirely unexpected to have a passerby look in as they go past. This provides basically a wall for them to look at. And I love it. Aside from the privacy, an unexpected benefit is wind control. On hotter days, my dog likes the window open, but hot to him may be cold to me, so I open it for him and allow this instant wall to shelter me. It is surprisingly effective at keeping the cold breeze from reaching me. I could not be more impressed with this divider. It stands on its own and provides privacy and temperature regulation through it's sturdy frame and thick (light-friendly) fabric.

Hiding from Coworkers Has Never Looked So Classy
Color: Frost
Let me tell you something: this divider isn’t just a piece of furniture...it’s a sanctuary, a confessional booth for the emotionally exhausted, and a glorious wall between me and other people’s nonsense. I slid behind this beauty like a barfly dodging an ex, and baby, I felt safe. It's lightweight, but sturdy enough to block out both sunlight and bad vibes. The fabric’s got a fancy little texture, which is great if you're hiding and still wanna feel aesthetic. It moves easy, it stands tall, and it gives me just enough space to eat my sad desk lunch in peace while pretending I’m in a better timeline. Final Word: Perfect for offices, bedrooms, dressing rooms, or wherever you need to spiritually disassociate. Whether you’re blocking out sunlight or Barbara’s unsolicited MLM pitch, this thing’s got your back. Literally. Five stars. Would (and likely will) emotionally withdraw again.

Great quality, perfect height to block the sun from the skylights.
Color: Frost, Color: Frost
We have skylights in our home that don't have shades yet so when we are in our loft, the sun will either blind us or make it unable to see our monitors clearly. So while we're waiting on installing shades, we thought to get a cover to block out the sun and this is perfect! It's tall enough to block out the sun and easy enough to move around as the sun moves. I don't love the way the cover looks, but it seems like it might be changeable. I think for privacy when we have guests in the loft, we would need a few more of these. The base is very sturdy and the quality overall is perfect. It is pricey, but most of these panels are. So really happy with this divider!

Works great but lacking value
Color: Nocturne
It's a well packaged item including a simple tool set and a clear instruction. No smell. I put it together just by myself in about 15-20 minutes without any problems. The base is solid pieces of metal, and it stands very sturdy. It's also light enough for me to move it around in my office to serve different purposes. I like the color and the quality of the fabric. It blends in with my office space perfectly. I needed it as a partition between my desk and the door, and the background for my video conference call. Surprisingly, it can also deflect the air coming down from the AC vent behind my desk. I didn't expect it to 100% soundproofing (not its purpose), but I feel it did absorb some humming sound from my mini fridge behind my desk. Sturdy metal for free-standing, yet pretty light weight for easy assemble and to move around. Keeping it beside my desk to separate lounging and work area, and I could move it easily if I want a conference-call backdrop. I can tell some difference in the sound absorption, as my all-in-one space (kitchen, dining, work, living) area can sound loud at times, it does provide some damping effect. But I must say for the price I was expecting more. More solidity and weight. More privacy. It's just not very big for the price paid. A good price for two panels but this was just a single.

High quality divider, but at a high cost
Color: Nocturne
So if you've ever been into an office setting you've likely encountered some variety of this divider. There's a bunch of good things about this product. -It's a nice size -There are great color options, went with Nocturne and no regrets with that -It's sturdy with a good base -Offers a bit of sound deadening The biggest drawback of this product is the cost. It's pricey for ONE divider. I'm sure it would make a great set, although for me it would fiscally irresponsible.
